Newfoundland Volunteer War Service Medal Auction Archive Insignia were made by ArthusBronze, 37 mm, impressed on rim "3836", nice patina, extremely fine. In hardshelled case of issue, maker marked Royal Mint, with additional ribbon. RARE. Footnote: While the Second World War was being fought, Newfoundland was still a seperate British colony and did not enter Canadian Confederation until 1949. Consequently, Newfoundland servicemen did not qualify for the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. This deficiency was not remedied until July
