Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis literally invented the jean with their patenting of copper rivets on denim pants. Now, over a century and a half later, Levi's is synonymous with denim. Starting in the 1960s, Levi's introduced a new orange tab to differentiate denim of new styles, such as flared and boot cut jeans and other denim products like hats and, as featured here, totes. They were modernizing a classic piece of clothing.
