Russia, Imperial. An Icon of the Mother of God of Vladimir, c. 1910 Auction Likely of French manufactureA well preserved icon of the Mother of God of Kazan. Presented on a gessoed wooden board, the image consists of the hand painted faces of Mary and Christ in classic Russian style, with their faces gently touching at the cheek, with hands and feet also visible. Riveted to the board is a silvered brass riza featuring openings perfectly sized to display the paint image, and with the robes and halos of both Mary and Christ executed in detail. The obverse
