Instituted 15 September 1885 by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV and Adolf Friedrich V. (1884 1918 issue). Constructed of gilded silver with enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross with red enameled arms, the obverse with a central medallion bearing a raised Mecklenburg griffin, the twelve oclock arm with a pebbled suspension connecting to a ring with a suspension loop and period original full length neck ribbon,
