France, III Republic. A National Order of the Legion of Honour in Gold, Officer’s Cross, c. 1915 Republic of the armband measures 46(Republique Francaise). Instituted in 1802. In 18 karat gold, with white, blue, and green enamels, five pointed star surrounded by laurel wreath, each of the arms finished with two finials, obverse centre shows profile of Marianne facing right with inscription Rpublique Francaise 1870, reverse centrepiece shows flag of France surrounded by blue enameled ring with the inscription Honneur et Patrie, inclusive of green enameled laurel wreath 88. 9 mm (h)
